STARE DECISIS: The legal principle by which courts are obliged to respect the precedents established by prior decisions.
Starting in January 2011, the site Stare Decisis Hibernia includes updates on all recently published judgments of the Irish superior courts (Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, High Court and previously the Court of Criminal Appeal) .
Updates normally appear within 5 days of being posted on the Courts Services web site (link).
In April 2012, the site was shortlisted in the category "Law Book of the Year" in the Irish Law Awards.
The updates normally include: i) a summary of the court’s decision; ii) a link to the text on the Courts Services web site (where available); iii) key terms and phrases used; d) the main authorities cited.
A paid subscription service is offered to:
- Allow subscribers to access the search resource on the website
- Allow subscribers to access premium content on the website
- Allow subscribers to choose their topics of interest (over 100 to choose from) and to receive email updates on these topics at a frequency that suits them.
